5.8 miles walking last night, in 1 hr 40 minutes. Healthy diet, lots of water. A full 8 hours of sleep (went to bed soon after I got back from the walk). Scale moved this morning! Looks like I'm down about 4 pounds this week alone.

Short of elders/MS why the silly microphone policy
by stillajwexelder inok - in our circuit anyway loads of brothers who get less than the national average hours can not do microphones etc.
now if you are short of elders it makes zero sense.
why not let every brother who is a regular publisher do mics/platform/literature/mags etc?.

WTWizard: It can never exceed 744 (in a month with 31 days). Once you hit that, no one would have any time for anything but field circus.
And there'd be a lot fewer witnesses, as they'd get shot for knocking on someone's door at 3:30AM.

Funny thing about sisters and carrying microphones... I agree, they should be 'allowed' to run sound, run mic's, whatever they want to do to help. But... I don't recall EVER seeing anything in writing, even as an elder, that said sisters can't run microphones. Is this just one of those "tradition" things that has no basis in actual WT writings? I'd love to see a reference that specifically says "ONLY brothers can run sound or mics".

chrisjoel: realized I transposed two digits in your starting weight, so I've got a 10# jump on you--which makes the goal in two-three months seem even more achievable!
Today: 1 lowfat yogurt with a sprinkling of almond granola upon waking; coffee, fresh ground black; at work, a 1/2 c. bowl of my oatmeal/cranberry mix. Lunch: brought a chicken/grape/pecan/craisin/itty-bitty-mayo spread (homemade) on whole wheat bread and a low-sodium V8. mid-afternoon snack, 1 orange. Dinner: pork chop, oven baked, with 1/4 cup brown rice and 1 cup of salad with lowfat dressing. Lots of water all day long.
Tonight: 5.5 mile walk over 1.45 hours. Whew. Ready for some ice water and bed!! Plenty of rest is important for weight loss and rejuvination, too.
QUESTION: how often do you weigh yourself? I tend to get on the scale each morning, but record just once/week (Sunday AM) for consistency.

chrisjoel, thanks for posting your story and results... your starting #'s are just like mine, and to see you've dropped to 250 in two months is encouraging. I walked 6 miles yesterday evening, and 5 tonight. For breakfast, I usually have 1/2 cup of steel cut Irish oats mixed with dried craisins. I bought some lowfat yogurt today and some good natural granola to put on it for variety. I'm packing a small lunch and a healthy mid-day snack (nuts or fruit), and watching portion sizes and such at dinner.
I've been working to lose 50# in the near term, then another 50# over the following year. To accomplish this, I'll need to lose 4# per week for 12 weeks (which will get me down to 230# by the end of September), which is "above normal" loss for sure, but I think I can do it with a combination of good diet and daily exercise. 1# of body fat is 3500 calories. To lose 4#/week, I need to create a 14,000 cal/week (2000/day) deficit. (I'm going to visit my physician and include him on this plan, and go for regular monitoring to ensure I'm not hurting myself).
Here's how I intend to do that: I've been walking 4.5 miles/day (6 miles yesterday, 5 miles today!) for two weeks now (over a 1.5 to 2.0 hour period), which burns 675-850 calories. I'm on a 1500-1700/calorie/day HEALTHY diet, which creates a 950 calorie deficit from my resting BMR. An hour of weight work in the morning adds another 400-600 calories (and muscle burns calories better than fat!), which puts me right at the daily deficit I need.
Wish me luck!! The motivation here is not only to lose the gut and lower my cholesterol, but to get down to a weight that allows me to do some glider and aerobatic flying. Then, continue to burn off the weight (more slowly after the initial rush) and get down to a "healthy" BMI for the first time in many years... I'll have to get back down to 185# to do that, 90-95# from where I am now.. I hope I can get there by next summer. -

Wash your mouth out with soap
by keyser soze indid anyone ever have this done to them, literally?
i thought it was only a figure of speech, until my mother did it to me for real.
i think i was about 10 at the most, and i said the word "piss", which to my mother was the equvalent of the f-word.

Yes, had this done. And was told to bite down into the soap before they pulled it back out. I STILL can taste it.

Sister dies (?) at DC
by DoomVoyager inno, this is not a joke.
having actually managed to survive through the entire 3 grueling days of the dc after attending the friday session today (hit sat and sun last weekend) i was initially going to make a criticism of some of the parts & points at the dc.
however, something that i witnessed today changed my mind.
